MGUS

MGUS Monitoring Service in Dorset

Mid Dorset Primary Healthcare Ltd, working together with Advanced Healthcare, will now provide the MGUS Monitoring Service for all GP surgeries and hospitals in Dorset.

What is MGUS?

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is a condition related to myeloma, but it is not a cancer. Most people with MGUS will notice no effect on their general health.

Regular check-ups are important, as they help us monitor your health and spot any changes early.

For more information on what MGUS is, visit the Myeloma UK website:

What this means for you

People with MGUS need regular check-ups to spot any changes early.
From now on, Mid Dorset PCN will look after your monitoring.

  • You will continue to have your MGUS blood tests at your GP surgery.

  • We will review your results and keep track of your condition.

  • We will contact you to explain any next steps.

Please don’t ignore letters, phone calls, or emails from us — they will be about your MGUS care.

When to see your GP

There is a small chance that MGUS can turn into a cancer, like myeloma or lymphoma. Always see your GP if you notice any of these:
  • Repeated infections that need antibiotics
  • Feeling short of breath
  • Extreme tiredness (fatigue)
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Night sweats
  • New lumps or swellings
